What is a Medical Cannabis Caregiver?
A “caregiver” is a person designated by an approved WV OMC patient and is also approved by WV OMC who is able to obtain medical cannabis from approved dispensaries in the state and deliver the medical cannabis to the patient.
Under the WV Medical Cannabis Act a “caregiver” is an individual, 21 years of age or older unless otherwise authorized by the WV OMC, who is
-
Designated by a patient or, if the patient is under 18 years of age, an individual that is a parent or legal guardian of the patient, or
-
An individual designated by a patient or legal guardian, or
-
An appropriate individual approved by the OMC upon sufficient showing that no parent or legal guardian is appropriate or available.
Caregivers must submit an application online to the WV OMC for a caregiver card and undergo a criminal history background check.
CHOOSING A CAREGIVER
A caregiver is a person who can buy, transport, possess and administrate medical cannabis to A WV OMC PATIENT CARD HOLDERS.
This person is designated by the patient to care for their needs. This can be a parent, guardian, nurse, spouse or any applicable significant other.​

​​Note: Patients under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or legal representative serve as their caregiver.​ These caregivers must also submit an application to the WV OMC and be approved before they can assist the patient.

Check Email
& Pay State Fee to Activate Card
All patients and caregivers must pay a patient applicatiopn fee to the WV Department of Health and Human Resourse in order to activate their WV OMC Patient Card. You will send your fee to the WV DHHR by check or money order once your application is submitted.
You can find the link to register for Complia on the WV OMC website. Once you confirm your registration in your email, you can start a new caregiver application.

Patient/caregiver Cards
All patients and caregivers wishing to obtain medical cannabis must receive a WV Office of Medical Cannabis approved Patient and/or Caregiver Card.

Caregiver
Eligibility
Individuals 21 and older can serve as a caregiver for no more than five medical marijuana patients. Each patient can have up to two caregivers.
Patient & Caregiver Application
The designated individual who wishes to become a WV OMC Caregiver, but submit an application on Complia, submit the caregiver fee to the WV DHHR and be approved by a state run background check. It can take 30-60 days to receive an email regarding the status of your application.
